One of lifes lessons

I have
just realised how unusual and unpredictable my work is at least compared to
some peoples that is. It is not the first time I have noticed this but this
was the stop and take note kind of noticing the type it is impossible to
ignore.

So what
was I doing when this revelation hit me I was collecting armfuls of wood
windfall from the ash trees in our garden ready to build a fire for tonights
fire ceremony.

Even on
its own a fire ceremony is a little unusual for the sleepy West Cork village I
live in but preceding the collection of wood I had been collecting seeds nuts
raisins red and white wine sugar rice fresh herbs coloured thread shells
gold and silver paper beads flowers from the garden and laying them out in my
beautiful log cabin ready for making despachos Andean Prayer bundles with one
of my masters students tonight.

On any
one day I could be doing something similar or I could be making shamanic drums
doing hands on energy healing shama...

There I
was sat bundled up in blankets cosy relaxed and for once not fighting
against having to rest. This was very unusual for me I am hardly ever unwell
and even when I do succumb to some bug that is doing the rounds I shake it off
quickly and throw myself back into the myriad of things that need doing every
day not because I have to but because I can.

So what
was different this time This time I had given myself permission to rest and to
regain all my energy rather than assume it will return once I start doing
things

I
cancelled appointments put work to one side allowed myself to be waited on
laid on the couch when too lacking in energy to sit and sat in the armchair
relaxing once I was able to.

And what happened because I had done so....absolutely
nothing. The world still turned there was still food in the house no one
complained about my not being available in other words I discovered I am far
from indispensable.

On the
other hand I also discovered how ...

Ive been going through a tough time recently having returned back from holiday with a sick husband only to be met by a very sick cat. It has been a period where having a selection of possibilities for healing really came in useful.I made up a prescription of Bush Flower Essences for my husband to help with his cough and which worked quite happily alongside the conventional medicine and a prescription for the cat to help with the trauma of having to have a major operation to remove a tumour.Although many animals love taking essences mine was not one of these so instead of giving them orally I rubbed them into her fur and into her energy field so they could be absorbed into her system.Alongside this I was busy sending Reiki and I have really valued the community of friends I have locally and worldwide who I could call upon to send healing a resource it would be lovely if everyone could have available to them. Our cat Harrie sailed through the operation and we had a couple of weeks with he...

What seems like a lifetime ago now before I got involved with healing a therapist told me that the best time for receiving a treatment was as the seasons change. As the Autumn Equinox approaches this advice came flooding back to me along with the understanding of why it is useful maintenance to undergo a healing in some way at these times of the year. Our ancestors would have marked the passing of time by not only recognising but celebrating the wheel of the year. They would have celebrated each of the Solar Festivals as the seasons known to them as Ostara Lithia Mabon and Yule and to us as Spring Summer Autumn and Winter changed. In addition they also marked the passing of time at the Fire Festivals of Beltane Lammas Samhain and Imbolc thus giving them eight opportunities to reflect on the seasons keeping them in close contact with the active and dormant states of nature. Our bodies are still more intune with seasonal changes moon cycles planetary movement and e...

One of the things my guides have been working on with me
recently is the ability or lack of it to completely focus on one thing at a
time and one thing only. A strange thing to have to do after years of
multitasking but I am beginning to see how important it is to be able to
focus.

When we are scattered or doing one thing whilst we think of
something else it can be very hard for our guides or spirit helpers to get
through to us. Messages go unheard signs and symbols go unseen and the help
that is there for us gets lost. We then complain that no one is there to help
us. They are we are just too distracted to listen to or to see them. We can
seriously hamper communication with our guides sometimes.

This then got me thinking about how difficult it can be at
times even for us humans to communicate with one and other. How it can
sometimes feel that you are speaking a completely different language to other
people you know the Men are from Mars the Women from Venus...

Being still is not a state that comes naturally to me Im
afraid. As a child I was always on the go or I was bored. As an adult I could
never stand to be doing only one thing. Multitasking was made for me.

Over the years though Reiki and my work in general have
helped me with this and I am happy now to be still whilst giving myself Reiki
when working shamanically especially when journeying and can even sit quietly
drawing or sketching. I am often described now as being calm and happy in my
own company and it has taken considerable time to see that this is who I am
now not the 5 or even 25 year old who was constantly moving.

In learning to be still I have understood that while I am
busy rushing around it is hard for me not to miss things. I also skim when I am
rushing rather than looking reading or listening carefully. If I am still
then I am far more likely to see or hear what is really there rather than what
my busy mind wishes to be there.Life is busy we tend to m...
