How often have you walked into a party, a café, shop or
elsewhere and felt uncomfortable? Do you know anyone who always makes you feel
tired and drained after spending a few minutes with them? Do your children wear
you down and tire you out? Do you find that you take on other people's
problems? Are you involved in self-development, spiritual development or
self-healing in any way? Do you work with people or spend time in a busy
environment? Are you a therapist working to help others heal?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions, which is
probably most people, take a moment to ask yourself if you do anything to
protect your own energy, your boundaries, or to define where you stop and
others start.
Protecting your energy is, along with grounding yourself,
one of the most important things you can do for your own well-being. Without knowing how to protect yourself you
are very vulnerable and exposed to the energy of others whether you are aware of
it or not.
Some people do drain your energy, this is not deliberate on
their part and they would be unable to stop even if they were aware, in the
same way some places or situations do this too and as a result your energy can
become depleted as you go about your daily routine. You often cannot change the
people you interact with or the places you spend time but you can change you,
or at least your exposure to them.
There are many ways of protecting your energy and you may
have read some of them elsewhere, there is no right or wrong way, it is all
about finding something that works for you when you need it to. In my
experience it is good to have several ways that you can use in different
circumstances so that you can switch if you feel very vulnerable and need
something stronger than usual. The only way of knowing what to do is to
experiment and practice until you find what suits you.
These are a few suggestions as to how you can protect your
energy, all of them I use with my students. Play with the suggestions, test
them out, find what works and then use them. The more you use them, the more
familiar they will become and eventually you will be able to put protection in
place in a split second but this will only come with practice.
When you are learning how to do any of these it is good to
ground yourself first. If you are unsure how to do this then see my article on
grounding.
Protection 1
- Ground
yourself using any method that works for you.
- Imagine,
visualise, sense or just know that there is a bubble of gold light around
your body, it is above you, below you, in front of you, behind you, on all
sides of you
- It
can be as close to you or as far away as you want it to be. You might like
to move it back and forth until it feels comfortable
- You
can make the gold bubble as thick as you need it to be
- Know
that this is a very safe place to be and that only light, healthy energy
can enter here
- In
your mind reach out your hand and push the bubble, test its strength
- If
it doesn't feel strong enough you can make the bubble thicker, maybe see
it as made of a strong mesh, experiment to find what feels right and test
it to make sure
- In
your mind move around in your bubble, jump up and down, push it, hit it,
feel its strength
- Sit
in your bubble for a while and see how it feels to be surrounded by love,
light and positive energy

When
you are ready bring your awareness back into your body, you might need to
wriggle your toes, or fingers and stretch a little

ready, open your eyes.
Protection 2
- Ground
yourself using any method that works for you.
- Imagine,
visualise, sense or just know that there is a bubble of gold light around
your body, it is above you, below you, in front of you, behind you, on all
sides of you
- It
can be as close to you or as far away as you want it to be. You might like
to move it back and forth until it feels comfortable
- You

- Know

- Change
the colour of your bubble. You might like to try violet, pink, or white
- Each
time you change the colour in your mind move around in your bubble, jump
up and down, push it, hit it, feel its strength
- Decide
which feels strongest at this moment in time knowing that at another time
this might be different
- Sit
in your chosen bubble for a while and see how it feels to be surrounded a
bubble of this colour filled with light, healthy energy
- When
you are ready bring your awareness back into your body, you might need to
wriggle your toes, or fingers and stretch a little
- And
when you are completely ready, open your eyes
Protection 3
- Ground
yourself using any method that works for you.
- Imagine,
visualise, sense or just know that there is a bubble of light around your
body, you can make it whichever colour feels right for you now. It is
above you, below you, in front of you, behind you, on all sides of you
- It
can be as close to you or as far away as you want it to be. You might like
to move it back and forth until it feels comfortable
- Try
adding a ring of blue around your bubble, blue is a very protecting
colour, test this out to see how it feels
- Now
dissolve the blue ring and instead add a ring of violet flames that will
burn up any heavy energy coming towards you, see how this feels
- Now
dissolve the ring of violet flames and instead add a ring of mirrors
facing outwards reflecting any heavy energy away from you, again see how
this feels
- Choose
to be surrounded by whatever feels strongest for you at this time and put
it in place
- Sit
in your chosen bubble for a while and see how it feels to be surrounded a
bubble of this colour filled with light, healthy energy
- Now
bring your awareness back into your body, you might need to wriggle your
toes, or fingers and stretch a little
- And
when you are ready, you can open your eyes
Protection 4
- Ground
yourself using any method that works for you.
- Imagine,
visualise, sense or just know that you are sat inside a crystal pyramid.
It is a 4-sided pyramid that surrounds you and rises to a point above your
head.
- The
crystal pyramid can be clear quartz, rose quarts, amethyst or any crystal
that feels right for you now.
- It
can be as close to you or as far away as you want it to be. You might like
to move it back and forth until it feels comfortable
- In
your mind reach out and hit your pyramid test its strength
- Imagine
rocks or unkind words being thrown at your pyramid, see what happens to
them
- Sit
inside your pyramid for a while and soak up the energy that comes from
being inside a 4-sided pyramid form
- When
you feel ready bring your awareness back into your body, you might need to
wriggle your toes, or fingers and stretch a little
- And
when you are completely ready, you can open your eyes
If you are working with a friend then you might like to ask
them to help you test out your bubble or pyramid by saying something unkind or
potentially hurtful to you. Be aware of how much what they say reaches you if
at all. You could even ask them to throw imaginary arrows or rocks at your
bubble or pyramid, and see what happens.
If anything penetrates all you need to do is make your
protection thicker, stronger by changing its colour or structure. Have fun
experimenting with this.
In time you should be able to put in place or change your
protection very quickly. You can use it in the workplace, in a crowded room,
when you are with someone who usually drains you, when the children are
bombarding you with questions, in fact anywhere or anytime you need to
strengthen your boundaries and protect your energy.
Munay-Ki Rites

work with and feed the bands as often as possible and so strengthening your
connection with them.
